79 Additional Openreach ISDN Switch Off Locations Announced

Following the Openreach initial proposal that by December 2025 this date has recently changed to January 2027, integrated digital service network (ISDN) lines will be no more, Openreach has recently announced 79 additional UK ISDN switch off locations where they plan to stop selling the copper-based service. This in turn makes room for the newer fibre connections.

This programme will result in businesses no longer being able to buy copper broadband if they are upgrading or switching telecoms providers, and in replacement only being able to purchase fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband networks.

Will the Openreach ISDN switch off impact your business?

The short answer is yes, as the end of IDSN is approaching so it’s time to get on board now.

This stop-sell process initially started in Salisbury in December 2020, then in May 2021, a trial began in Suffolk.

Now in the latest step of the programme, 79 more locations cover 500,000 premises in locations including North Wales, Rural Scotland, the Far West of England, Northern Ireland, the Sussex Coast and metropolitan regions such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Bristol. This means there are now more than 450 stop sell exchanges, bringing the total number to about 4 million premises.
